Celebrating Summer Solstice Through Nature, Wellness and Community
There couldn't have been a more beautiful afternoon to welcome summer. Families, friends and neighbours gathered at Willow Park Ecology Centre to celebrate the Summer Solstice with a day of reflection, connection, hands-on learning and caring for our shared planet. Following the wellness-fire ceremony, everyone headed into our Pollinator Gardens, where conversation quickly turned into action. Participants of all ages helped plant native flowers that will support bees, butterflies and other important pollinators throughout the growing season.
Corporate Volunteer Day with 407 ETR
Written By Willow Park Norval
A huge thank you to the 407 ETR’s team of 21 professionals for spending a half-day at Willow Park Ecology Centre supporting habitat enhancement and biodiversity conservation. From improving pollinator habitat to helping maintain accessible nature trails, their efforts made a meaningful impact.
We are grateful for their continued partnership through the Volunteer Big Day Out program and look forward to welcoming them back again.
Curious about what the volunteers accomplished, the wildlife they encountered, and the special thank-you they received from local students?
April - what a blast - Earth month and caring for our planet.
At Willow Park Ecology Centre’s Earth Day event 35 people enjoyed the health benefits of socializing while keeping their hands busy with park stewardship. Next stewardship days take place on Thursdays from 4–6 pm, and one Sunday afternoons. Teachers and parents, contact us to have your students come as we have a few dates left. We are proud to be part of a local network of citizens supporting the Town of Halton Hills and our neighbours in advancing more sustainable lifestyles during these times of change.
Stronger Together: Community Call to Climate Action
Dr. David Suzuki reminded Halton Region leaders simply: “Nature is us.” He challenged us to act for the long-term care of our planet. Reflecting on the connection between ecology and economics - both rooted in our home. If we don’t care for our home there are consequences. Powerful examples like the risks of unchecked exponential growth emphasized the urgency of community-based solutions for emergency readiness, mitigation and adaptation. WPEC’s shared a call-to-action.
